Mali Lošinj is a synonym of my childhood.
I spent my summers there with my mom, dad and sister for more than 10 years. When we returned after many years, we rented an apartment from Tihana.
One afternoon, I saw someone in an empty apartment next to ours, sitting on the floor and drawing on old school chairs. Of course Tihana immediately became my friend.
Tihana is the creative director of the island of Lošinj (if you ask me). She restores furniture, apartments, houses, furnishes them, paints with colors that everybody talks about. She makes mosaics on city benches with tiles from Portugal or Morocco. Tihana takes care of the island. She takes care of every detail and makes everything look like Almodovar movies.
It’s crowded during the summer and Tihana runs in all directions. She receives guests from all over the world. She opens the doors of incredible apartments and houses in Veli and Mali Lošinj. You can’t help but notice the doors of those houses which she paints manualy
I asked her what does she do during winter, is she bored? Tihana is certainly never bored.
She makes cakes that look like theatrical scenery, she renovates bakeries and cafes. For the new year’s, she makes installations from Christmas trees, from materials that probably only she invents.
I call her Madame Gaudi. She is my strong connection with Lošinj, the one with a thousand colorful layers.
